OREGON CRAFTED MARCH / APRIL 2007 NEWSLETTER

Greetings to all Oregon Crafted artists, crafters, partners, and supporters

NEWS FROM THE OC OFFICE

The 2nd Edition of the Guidebook

We are happy to announce that the second edition of the Guidebook will have an anticipated release date of mid-June 2007! We are planning several events to help promote and launch this edition in each county, occurring around the first weekend of July. Look for more news on this, and how you can help, in the next newsletters!

Tours for Travel Writers

We are currently working on developing invitations and itineraries for travel writers to come to Oregon and explore some of the studios and galleries featured in the Oregon Crafted Guidebook.  We will be emphasizing travel experiences such as:  family-oriented travel, driving vacations, Oregon experiences, and art classes.  If you are able to teach a short workshop about your artwork for visitors to your studio, in a format that can be shared with future visitors, contact Kathy Wilson (Kathy@oregoncrafted.org).

Some of you have asked if you can organize an OC Artist event in your area. Yes, please do. Also do let us know what and when you are planning something. We are making headway with some of the media organizations and we can also send out press releases, etc. Contact Kathy Wilson for ideas, assistance, and help: kathy@oregoncrafted.org.

Fundraising and Sustainability for the Guidebook

The Oregon Crafted Board has been looking at options for fundraising events so that we can keep publishing the Guidebook and eventually include other counties statewide.  A tentative date of September has been set for an art auction.  We hope to have many beautiful items from many of the Oregon Crafted artists!  The artists would receive their wholesale price (at least) for any items donated.  We also would like to procure any mailing lists you would like to share, to notify your clients and collectors of this important event.  Look for more news in upcoming newsletters as plans develop.

ACRE Show Update

Oregon Crafted staff will not be traveling to Las Vegas in May for the ACRE wholesale trade show. There were not enough interested Oregon Crafted artists to be able to make it economically viable for us to participate. Hopefully this may be possible in the future.

Governor’s Conference on Tourism

The 23rd Annual Oregon Governor’s Conference on Tourism will be held in Sunriver April 15-17, 2007.  We will be joining economic development professionals, community leaders, lodging and restaurant owners & managers, and visitor industry-related businesses of all types and sizes to attend workshops, meetings, and to promote the Guidebook.

CALL TO ARTISTS: Multicultural Festival

The 5th Annual Multicultural Festival will be taking place on Friday, August 3rd, 2007, from 4:30 – 8:30 pm at the Sheldon Park and Community Center (2445 Willakenzie, Eugene). Art booths are available, and apparently there is no booth fee or commission taken. For more information and to reserve a space, contact Rayna Luvert, Vendor Coordinator, at the Eugene Recreation Administration, #541-682-6860, or e-mail at: rayna.p.luvert@ci.eugene.or.us.
