OREGON CRAFTED JANUARY 2008 NEWSLETTER

Greetings to all Oregon Crafted artists, crafters, partners, and supporters!


OPEN STUDIO WEEKEND

February  2nd & 3rd, 2008. Make sure to have your Oregon Crafted signs out (be sure that the sign is on your property and not in the public right of way). If you are not able to have your studio open, please post a sign with your regrets and when you will be open again.


NEWS FROM THE OREGON CRAFTED OFFICE

Winner of the 2008 Toyota Prius Announced!
On December 21st, 2007, at noon at the Jacobs Gallery, the drawing for the Prius took place, with approximately 30 hopeful on-lookers and supporters.  Joan Swanson, of Philomath, was the lucky winner. She now will be able to replace her 1987 Toyota Corolla that has 300,000 miles on it! Thanks to all of you who bought and helped sell the raffle tickets for this successful fund-raising event.

Good Earth Show Oregon Crafted Booth
A group of Oregon Crafted artists specializing in the creation of hand-crafted architectural elements for homes and businesses, will be presenting their work at the Good Earth Show at the Lane County Fairgrounds, January 25th – 27th. Come by booth #320 to see the exhibit.  Admission is free, and the hours of the show are: Fri. 1/25, 5pm – 9pm, Sat. 1/26, 10am – 8pm, and Sun. 1/27, 10am – 5pm. Artists include: Mark Andrew, Jerry Berg & Connie Ewing, Mary Hornig & Chris Mini, Daisy LaPoma, Patti Lomont, Lucy McIver, Kiki Metzler, Lynn Ihsen Peterson, Daryle Ryder, and Cindy Sittner.

Keep Art Alive Auction  – February 9th, 2008
The date for the 1st Annual Oregon Crafted Auction will be Saturday, February 9th, 2008, 7 pm – 10 pm. It will take place at the Mallard Banquet Hall, 725 W. 1st Ave., in Eugene. We have over 100 incredible pieces of donated art in a variety of styles and mediums for the auction, along with experiential adventures and packages, gift baskets, and more. This fun event is to benefit Oregon Crafted and artist programs. Bring your friends! Sponsor a table! Enjoy yourself! And purchase a lifetime of beauty! Tickets ($20) are on sale now, through our website and via the office.

Looking for Volunteers for the Oregon Crafted Auction
We will need volunteers for the February 9th auction, including packers (for sold art work), runners, etc. Please contact Patti at patti@oregoncrafted.org or call the office at 541-687-8353, if you are interested in helping!

Babette Grunwald Show
You are invited to a reception for Oregon Crafted artist, Babette Grunwald, Saturday, January 19th from 2pm to 4pm, for her show called "Hanging By A Thread" at the BRING gallery in Eugene. The show will hang from January 14th to February 29th 2008. More information at http://bringrecycling.org/gallery.html.

Rebecca LaMothe Show
Rebecca, an Oregon Crafted artist and former board member, will be having an opening reception for her show “Spirit & Matter”on Thursday, February 7th, 2008, 5:30pm – 8:30pm, at the Art Reach Gallery, First Congressional Church, 1126 S.W. Park Street, in Portland (across from the Art Museum). The show will run from February 7th through March 2nd.

2009-2010 Exhibit Schedule
Submission Deadline: April 9, 2008

Artists working in all 2- and 3-dimensional mediums, including installations (with or without a video component), are invited to submit images of their work along with an application form to be considered for the next biennium (2009-2010) of exhibits at the Maude Kerns Art Center. There is a $10 submission fee.

The postmark deadline is April 9, 2008. Application forms and prospectuses are available at the Art Center or online at www.mkartcenter.org. Call 541-345-1571 for more information.


Oregon Arts Commission Career Opportunity Grants for Artists Available
These grants provide financial support to enable Oregon artists to take advantage of opportunities to enhance their careers through the development of arts, business or professional skills to expand marketing capacity and/or to further develop the nature or quality of their artwork. Grant amounts may range from $300 to $1,500. The Oregon Arts Commission has allocated $40,000 for the FY2008 grant cycle. Applications are reviewed on a quarterly basis, and the Commission may award up to the full amount available at any quarter, so please check the website to see if there are funds available. There is a February 13, 2008 deadline for activity between: April 1, 2008 – March 31, 2009, and a May 14, 2008 deadline for activity between: July 1, 2008 – June 30, 2009.
